Hot Core CPI Hands Bitcoin’s Fate To Spot Flows

The September US Consumer Price Index (CPI), a key measure of inflation that informs Federal Reserve policy making, came in hotter than consensus. Core prices rose 0.3 percent month on month against a 0.2 percent consensus and 2.6 percent year on year. Headline CPI, meanwhile, rose 0.6 percent as expected and 3.7 percent year on year against a 3.6 percent consensus. The 10-year Treasury yield rose 9.3 basis points to 5.31 percent and the two-year yield 13.1 basis points to 4.92 percent. Bitcoin’s initial reaction was contained: a 1.9 percent fall from the pre-release high of $84,029 to $82,401 within an hour of the release, but the selling did not stop there.
