Twitter taps into payment market with plan to support cryptocurrency
Twitter is applying for different regulatory licenses across the United States to offer FinTech services, which will first build in regular currencies and payment methods, with plans to support cryptocurrencies in the future. By doing so, Twitter hopes to look for a new source of income, according to Financial Times.
Since Elon Musk, the once-richest man in the world, bought the platform for $44bn last October, he has begun to steer the company in a direction beyond social media, aiming to bring in about $1.3bn in payment revenue by 2028.
Around last November, Musk revealed his plans to enter the payments market, providing users with FinTech services such as P2P transactions, savings accounts, and debit cards. But there haven’t been more details until recently.
Recent reports claim that Twitter has begun applying for regulatory licenses across the United States as well as designing the software required to introduce payments across social media platforms.
While Twitter is forging ahead with Musk’s vision, it’s foreseeable that the platform will face different challenges, ranging from increased operation costs to winning consumer trust, not to mention the high competitiveness in the existing payment market.
Justin Sun optimistic about Chinese market with plan to moving to HK
While Hong Kong is determined to become Asia’s digital-asset capital despite the downturns in the crypto industry, H.E. Justin Sun, Founder of TRON and investor of Poloniex, supported the plan and revealed his next plan to move to the city.
Tweeted on January 30, Sun sounded optimistic about the Chinese market and revealed that he is moving to Hong Kong because the Chinese crypto market is rising.
As the adviser of Huobi Global, Sun also revealed his plan to expand the local operations and add jobs once the road map from the Hong Kong government is more clear on what is allowed and encouraged, during a separate interview with Bloomberg. Sun thought that Hong Kong is “becoming the leading force in regulated crypto adoption” in the Asia Pacific.
The Chinese market seems back in the game. After the first regulated NFT trading platform plans to be launched this year, according to Sina News, the Chinese app Little Red Book announced on January 24 that it has integrated with Conflux, the Layer 1 blockchain network, to allow users to mint their non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
