Optimism (OP) is a low-cost and lightning-fast second layer (L2) for the Ethereum blockchain, based on optimistic roll-up technology. Optimism released its governance token on 31 May 2022. Since Optimism’s technology can follow most of Ethereum’s logic, all Ethereum-based smart contracts can be deployed on Optimism to take advantage of the platform's higher transaction speed and cheaper gas fees. The Optimism Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the Optimism Collective.
