XRP prepares to challenge its historical October performance, with potential SEC approval of spot ETFs and ecosystem developments offering hope for a market turnaround.
September saw XRP gain 3.66%, reversing August's 8.15% decline. However, the cryptocurrency faces a challenging historical trend, with October traditionally being one of its weakest months. Over the past 12 years, XRP has closed in the red during seven Octobers, with an average return of -4.58%.
Spot XRP ETFs Incoming?
The most significant potential catalyst is the upcoming SEC decisions on multiple spot XRP ETF applications. Between October 18 and 25, the SEC is set to rule on filings from Grayscale, 21Shares, Bitwise, Canary Capital, WisdomTree, CoinShares, and Franklin Templeton. Approval could unlock substantial institutional inflows and potentially propel XRP's price higher.
Beyond ETF possibilities, the XRP Ledger ecosystem is showing promising developments. Securitize recently integrated with XRPL, enhancing utility and access. A new smart contract allows holders of BlackRock's BUIDL and VanEck's VBILL to swap shares for Ripple USD (RLUSD) 24/7 on-chain, creating a new stablecoin off-ramp.
Decentralized finance developments are also gaining traction. Flare Network's fXRP, a DeFi-compatible representation of XRP, quickly reached its initial minting cap. Midas' mXRP liquid staking token accumulated $26 million in total value locked within six days, highlighting growing DeFi interest.
Ripple's SVP of Stablecoins, Jack McDonald, emphasized the importance of bridging traditional finance and crypto, noting RLUSD's potential for institutional use and regulatory clarity.
Looking Ahead: While October historically challenges XRP, 2025 brings credible upside catalysts. The potential SEC spot ETF approval could mark a pivotal transition from regulatory uncertainty to mainstream integration. However, investors should remain cautious, as denial or delays could trigger downside volatility.
