According to Bitvavo, this fits into a trend of consolidation within the market of crypto exchanges and brokers. Bitvavo expects that more, especially smaller parties, will throw in the towel in the coming months. Currently Bitvavo is the biggest and most valued crypto exchange in The Netherlands.
Strong brand

Consolidation in the world of crypto

Additionally, this regulatory framework leads to rising costs and the profitability of smaller-scale players will diminish. Finally, the market is currently experiencing relatively low trading volumes. As a result of these three factors, the market will rapidly consolidate, the most competitive players will emerge as the winners.'
Nuvelstijn adds: ‘The acquisition of LiteBit's customer base aligns with Bitvavo's growth strategy. In fact, we are in discussions with several players for a similar arrangement as the one we have made with LiteBit, just as we have welcomed customers from Bitzeb and Bitqist in the past.’
The crypto customer wins
Nuvelstijn states: "Supervision and enforcement will ensure that companies can demonstrate their compliance. MiCA, in particular, creates a level playing field for fair competition, with Europe taking the lead. Enforcement is crucial in this regard. If non-European entities can operate freely and disregard fines, it leads to unfair competition.

ACM keurt overname klantbestand Litebit door Bitvavo goed
[Dutch] De Autoriteit Consument & Markt (ACM) heeft groen licht gegeven voor de overname van het klantenbestand van LiteBit door Bitvavo. De Rotterdamse cryptobroker LiteBit maakte twee weken geleden bekend haar activiteiten te beëindigen als gevolg van diverse marktontwikkelingen, waaronder toenemende concurrentie en regeldruk. Wij berichtten daar al eerder over. In de komende dagen ontvangen LiteBit-gebruikers een bericht waarmee ze gemakkelijk hun digitale assets en tegoeden gratis kunnen overzetten naar het Bitvavo platform.
Volgens Bitvavo past deze overname in een trend van consolidatie binnen de markt van cryptobeurzen en brokers voor digitale valuta. Bitvavo verwacht dat meer relatief kleine partijen in de komende maanden de handdoek in de ring zullen gooien. Bitvavo is de grootste en meest gewaardeerde crypto exchange van Nederland.
Sterk merk
Mark Nuvelstijn, CEO van Bitvavo, is blij met de komst van de Litebit klanten. “Dat LiteBit voor Bitvavo kiest, is een mooie bevestiging voor ons robuuste en gebruiksvriendelijke platform en het sterke merk dat we de afgelopen jaren hebben opgebouwd. Consolidatie in cryptowereld
‘Er komt een grote consolidatieslag aan in onze markt’, zegt Mark Nuvelstijn, CEO van Bitvavo. ‘In de eerste plaats zullen er partijen zijn die eenvoudigweg niet in staat zijn om te voldoen aan de komende MiCa wetgeving en andere regelgeving. Daarnaast leidt die regelgeving tot stijgende kosten en zal de winstgevendheid van partijen met te weinig schaalgrootte verdwijnen. Ten slotte zien we in de markt op dit moment relatief lage handelsvolumes. Als gevolg van deze drie oorzaken zal de markt in rap tempo consolideren en blijven de meest competitieve spelers over.’
Nuvelstijn vervolgt: ‘de overname van het klantenbestand van Litebit past in de groeistrategie van Bitvavo. Sterker. Wij spreken met verschillende spelers over een soortgelijke afspraak als wij met LiteBit hebben gemaakt, zoals we in het verleden ook klanten van Bitzeb en Bitqist hebben mogen verwelkomen.’
De crypto klant wint
Nuvelstijn: ‘Toezicht en handhaving gaat ertoe leiden dat partijen kunnen bewijzen dat ze hun zaken op orde hebben. Daarbij zorgt MiCA voor een level playing field zodat concurrentie eerlijk kan plaatsvinden. Europa neemt hierbij het voortouw. Handhaving is daarbij cruciaal. Wanneer partijen van buiten Europa hun gang kunnen gaan en de boetes voor lief nemen, is sprake van oneerlijke concurrentie.’
Bitvavo steunt regelgeving
‘Als Bitvavo zullen we ons blijven inzetten om de ontwikkeling van passende regelgeving te ondersteunen en een veilige omgeving te bieden voor onze gebruikers. We kijken uit naar de verdere consolidatie in de markt en zijn vastberaden om een competitieve en klantgerichte speler te blijven.’
