1. Crypto firm BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads

Distressed crypto firm BlockFi has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey following the implosion of putative acquirer FTX. In the filing, the company indicated that it had more than 100,000 creditors, with liabilities and assets ranging from $1 billion to $10 billion. The company also listed an outstanding $275 million loan to FTX US, the American arm of Sam Bankman-Fried’s now-bankrupt empire

2. Animoca plots $2 billion metaverse investment fund: Nikkei

Web3 gaming and software giant Animoca Brands is set to debut a fund of up to $2 billion to invest in metaverse companies. The fund, named Animoca Capital, is expected to make its first investment next year, co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu said in an interview with Nikkei.

3. Japanese Regulator Suggests it May Be Preparing to Police DeFi

The top Japanese financial regulator has given a hint that it may be preparing to attempt to police the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector. The Financial Services Agency (FSA) issued a call for DeFi players to take part in a “fact-finding survey” on the sector.

4. Aave Supporters Say Lending Freeze Will Help Transition the Network

Decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Aave is freezing borrowing and lending of assets in its Ethereum liquidity pool after a vote by its community of token holders aimed at mitigating risk – and in preparation for upgrading its protocol. The Ethereum liquidity pool is the largest on Aave, which has $5.6 billion in liquidity locked across six chains on the protocol.

5. 'Bitcoin Senator' Lummis: FTX Collapse Shows 'It's Time' for Congress to Learn About Crypto

The collapse of crypto exchange FTX highlights the need for Congress to "learn more" about cryptocurrency, said Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), known as the "Bitcoin Senator" for her cryptocurrency advocacy on Capitol Hill.
