# Request a password reset

`POST https://api.cryptohopper.com/v1/user/resetpassword`

Part of [Users](https://www.cryptohopper.com/api-documentation/api-reference/users.md) in the Cryptohopper API reference.

Sends a password reset email with a verification code to the given address. Needs no access token.

Only works from Cryptohopper's own apps: the User-Agent header must hold the email address encrypted with a platform key, and failed checks count toward an IP block.

## Headers

| Name | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `Platform` | string | no | Platform of the client: web, ios or android. Defaults to web. |

## Example request

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.cryptohopper.com/v1/user/resetpassword" \
  -H "access-token: YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"email":"user@example.com"}'
```

## Response

Example response (illustrative values):

```json
{
    "data": "An email has been sent to you, please click on the link in the email or copy the code from the email to reset your password."
}
```

Status codes: 200. Errors return JSON with `status`, `error` and `message`, plus a numeric `code` when the error comes from the API itself rather than the gateway.
